LENOVO THINKPAD X300 REVIEW

The Lenovo Thinkpad X300 is the latest in the thinkpad category, and is basically meant for the professional on the move. A decent notebook, we review it for you.

Design
The build quality is very sturdy, and the usage of carbon fiber in the design makes it very strong and light. And since its a Thinkpad, don’t worry if you drop it a couple of times, because it would still retain its normality, and work like it should! Its a slim baby, so you can expect some green faces when you carry it to work. It has a 13.3” WXGA screen which has good brightness and quality, and it supports a maximum resolution of 1280×800. The screen has good viewing angles, but it falters when it is stretched too much. The keyboard is great, and no flex was observed in that area. With matte keys, the keyboard looks great overall, and has shortcut keys to carry out the regular tasks. The notebook suffers a bit in the connectivity, with only 3 USB ports, Ethernet, VGA, Headphone/MIC. The PCMCIA is missing and so is firewire.

Performance
It runs on a low voltage Intel Core-2-Duo 1.2 GHz L7100 processor, 2GB RAM and 64GB solid state drive (SSD). It can multi-task easily, and can run all your business applications with ease, but think of gaming, and the machine falters. It scored a decent 3,467 PCMark 05 score while the 3DMark results were pathetic. The SSD made a lot of difference, and increased the performance a lot. The battery life was decent, and in normal mode, it ran upto 4 hours, which is quite good for a notebook of this class.

Conclusion
The Lenovo Thinkpad X300 is a great notebook with a flawless design, but only for those who desire to use it for business tasks and not 3D intensive stuff like Gaming. However, it still does not have anything exceptional for the price tag at which it comes at.

Pros
+ Great design
+ Awesome battery

Cons
- Poor GPU
- High price

LENOVO THINKPAD RESERVE EDITION REVIEW

Introduction
This is a limited edition ThinkPad from IBM. You can only find 5000 of these in the world. The laptop is also covered with saddle-grade premium French leather.

Design
This design of this laptop is indeed unique. The laptop is covered in leather and it looks really expensive. If you buy a PC like this IBM gives you access to specially trained dedicated support staff, these guys can help you with everything. Lenovo also claims that if a person who calls them it will be answered within 4 rings and the person who picks up the phone will talk the customers native language. Talk about luxury service!

Performance
This laptop is not any better or stringer than a normal laptop on the market today. The laptop features a 12-inch LCD screen, 160GB hard drive and 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi connectivity. You also get a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB of memory. With other words “it is nothing special except for the looks”. The laptop is running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition very well.

The laptop only features a DVD drive, this is very bad for such an expensive laptop. I would much more like to see a Blu-way drive or a HD-DVD drive. The price tag on the machine is on 5000 Euro so this is only for the most interested people. The Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve Edition is available now in the UK, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates and the US.

Conclusion
The look of the computer is rare and unique, but the performance is just average. The laptop runs well in Vista and it is a great laptop if you got money for it. However I believe this is only for the special interested people, and I would not recommend it to anyone simply because of the insane price of 5000$ for an average performance laptop.

Pros
+ Unique design
+ Only 5000 copies in the world
+ Small and portable

Cons
- Too expensive
- Average performance

LENOVO THINKPAD T61 REVIEW

Introduction
The T61 uses the new Intel Centrino Duo platform (Santa Rosa) and offers a many different design updates. We took a closer look at this 14.1-inch widescreen laptop to see what it got to offer.

Design
This looks and is a business laptop, it is very solid and it won’t fall apart if you use it hard so it also fits for the traveler. The design seems boring to me but it is perfect for the serious business man who wants something good and solid. They keyboard and the touchpad works okay, nothing special about that. This laptop is also tough and can handle a hard day at work.

This pc also features monitor out port, modem and Ethernet LAN port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard and PC card slot, IEEE 1394 port (FireWire), Wi-Fi on/off switch, headphone jack, microphone jack etc.

Screen
The screen here is a WXGA+ resolution (1440 x 900) with a matte look. This screen offers a little bit over average quality because you can view it nice from all angles, but it lacks in brightness. However the screen works good overall for a business man.

Performance
The ThinkPad T61 uses the Intel Centrino Duo (Santa Rosa) platform which is a fast processor for a business laptop. For graphics you get a in-built Intel X3100 graphic adapter that actually works quite okay. You also get 2 GB of memory and a100GB 7200RPM hard drive. This is a very nice setup for a business laptop and it will last a long time. However I still recommend Windows XP for this laptop since Vista fails 1 GB of the laptops memory.

For the benchmarks the laptop did very good with the Intel X3100 graphic adapter. On 3DMark 05 we got 911 points which is very goof for a graphic adapter like this and a lot better then the Intel GMA 950 ever scored. For PCMark05 we got 4093 points and almost beat the HP dv6000t multimedia laptop.

Conclusion
I would recommend this to any businessman who is looking for something solid that will last for a long time and with a powerful performance. The Laptop is good overall and offers many good features.

Pros
+ Good overall quality
+ Good performance for a business laptop
+ Great battery life

Cons
- Lack of screen brightness
- Does not work flawless with Windows Vista
